Mobilization of October 24: the call for Act II and the announcements

Two routes have been declared in Paris according to the press, including Bastille–Opéra. What do we know about the 24th, who is calling and what decisions are still awaited? Update on Act II, distinct from the November 5 strike.

The press reports two routes declared in Paris, including Bastille–Opéra. No decree or final agreement fixing the routes, timetables and restrictions of the 24th was consulted during the update.

The essentials

October 17 Gilet Jaune presents Saturday October 24 as “Act II”, after the day of the 17th. The call associates the cost of living, salaries, public services and the situation of youth with the rights to demonstrate and political demands.[1]

The national appeal explains the reasons for the mobilization; local announcements specify where and when to gather. A national date is not enough to confirm an action in a given city.[1][4]

Paris: two declarations, decisions still awaited

According to Le Parisien, the coordination announces having sent a declaration for a procession from Bastille to Opéra on Saturday October 24. The newspaper also reports another declaration from the CGT, still awaiting validation from the authorities. A declaration is therefore not enough to present these routes as definitive.[6]

Sortir à Paris relays a meeting of the Student Union at Bastille from 2 p.m. We are retaining this schedule as a reported announcement: the original message from the union was not obtained. The provisions applicable on the 24th remain to be checked.[7]

The CNL also calls for demonstrations on October 22 and 24. This call specific to the high school movement establishes neither a single command nor the adherence of each organization to the political demands of the coordination of the Yellow Vests.[8]

The student demonstration planned in Paris for October 22 was banned by the Police Prefecture. This decision does not automatically concern the 24th, but it confirms that each route can be the subject of a separate decision until a date close to the gathering.[11]

What does this “Act II” extend?

The October 18 statement calls for a meeting with the president and continued convergence between groups. The call for October 24 notably adds the request for the resignation of the president. These texts set out the orientations of this coordination; they do not prove that each participant shares all of these positions.[2][1]

We must distinguish economic demands – prices, income and public services – from the rights to assembly, demonstration and strike, as well as criticism of police action. This file summarizes these requests without transforming the figures, injuries or responsibilities mentioned into the conclusions of an independent investigation.[1]

October 24 is not a common calendar for all organizations

In its press release of October 19, the CGT demanded immediate negotiations with the unions and youth, an increase in income and educational resources and price controls. It sets November 5 as the next convergence of strikes and demonstrations. This text sheds light on common social demands, without proving its support for all the positions or modalities of October 24.[3]

The days of October 24 and November 5 are therefore the subject of separate files. To assess support, check the signature, the date and the level of the organization: individual commitment, local section and national declaration do not have the same scope.[1][3]

How to check a point on the October 24 map?

The initiative map allows you to add actions for October 24 and other dates. It also includes geographical markers, ancient gathering places and contributions from visitors. A point does not confirm an action that day. Open each entry and check the date, local time, exact location, author and original announcement.[4]

Dialogue in Matignon: no measures announced, according to the CGT

After the October 21 meeting in Matignon, Sophie Binet affirms that no measures have been announced to respond to the demands of workers and high school students. The CGT calls for the strike to be extended from November 5. This position does not transform October 24 into a common call for all confederations.[10]

Chronology

  1. The coordination issues a statement after the 17th

The October 17 website publishes a statement requesting a meeting with the president and the continuation of joint mobilizations. This is the signed position of this coordination.[2]

  2. The CGT exposes its own consequences

The CGT calls for negotiations and prepares strikes and demonstrations for November 5. This text should not be presented as a joint declaration for the 24th.[3]

  3. The call for Act II of the 24th is public

The text explicitly mentions October 24, 2026. Its publication date could not be established; the verification date is not used in its place.[1]

  4. Two Parisian routes have been declared according to the press

Bastille–Opéra is announced by the coordination; another declaration is attributed to the CGT. The precise administrative decisions remain to be documented.[6]

  5. The CGT maintains the November 5 deadline

The CGT affirms that no measures have been announced and calls for the strike to be extended from November 5.[10]

  6. Act II announced by the initiative

The day has not yet occurred as of the update date. Its local content, possible changes and its implementation will require new sources.[1][4]

Demands and positions

October 17 Yellow VestAt the origin of the call of October 24

Demands a dignified life, the guarantee of the rights to demonstrate, to assemble and to strike; denounces what it describes as police violence and calls in particular for the resignation of the president. This summary is attributed to its authors.[1]

CGTUnion having published a separate appeal

Demands negotiations with unions and youth, increases in salaries, pensions and scholarships, educational resources and price controls. His press release of the 19th mainly calls for November 5.[3]

What is confirmed

  • The call for Act II of October 24 is public on October 17 Gilet Jaune and explicitly mentions the year 2026.[1]

  • The proposed map brings together several dates, types and sources of information. Not all points can be counted as October 24 actions.[4]

  • The CGT published a press release on October 19 and called for November 5. The authors and dates of the two calls must remain distinct.[3]

  • The press of October 21 reported two Parisian declarations for the 24th, including Bastille–Opéra. Statements do not constitute definitive confirmation of routes.[6]

What remains to be verified

  • The final routes and police provisions applicable in Paris on the 24th: no specific decree or final agreement has been obtained. The meeting at Bastille at 2 p.m. remains an announcement relayed by a media, to be cross-checked with the union.[6][7]

  • Responses, restrictions and administrative provisions specifically relating to October 24: no confirmed original text was obtained during this check. Notices from other dates cannot be reused.

  • The complete list of organizations, the expected or present numbers and the results: an appeal does not prove these elements. The report of the 24th will have to distinguish the figures from each source.

  3. Creation of the file. Verification of the call of the 24th, the declarations of the 18th and 19th and the map published by the October 17th initiative. Distinction between published demands, projects and local modalities to be confirmed; organizers' figures not treated as independent facts.

  4. Publication of the French version: text, navigation and captions translated, without further verification of events.

  5. Addition of the Bastille–Opéra declaration announcement, the student meeting reported at 2 p.m., the CNL call and the context of the meeting at Matignon. Distinction between declaration and authorization.
