High school movement and Parcoursup: demands and responses

The high school movement has several demands, and Parcoursup is not just a website. Study conditions, selection and official responses: here are the points to distinguish. As of October 22, 2026, the national consultation remains open until October 23 and the improvements announced for the end of the month remain to be followed.

The national consultation of high school students is announced until October 23, with no closing time specified. The ministry also announces improvement decisions before the end of the month: this does not mean that a reform has already been implemented.

Understanding the debate

The FCPE places the start of the movement on September 21, around the lack of resources in establishments. The demands subsequently published also concern personnel, buildings, rhythms, orientation and living conditions. Reducing the movement to a rejection of Parcoursup would make these issues disappear.[1][3]

What is the movement asking for, and who is speaking?

The ten emergency measures published by the Student Union call for the renovation of buildings, recruitment, an adaptation of rhythms and better aid, housing and catering conditions. For orientation, they propose the end of the selection on Parcoursup and My Master and 250,000 additional places, while maintaining a single national platform. These are proposals, not adopted admission rules.[3]

The wording differs depending on the organization. FO ESR explicitly calls for the repeal of Parcoursup. The FCPE mentions to the Higher Education Council the overcrowded classes, the unreplaced absences, the lack of medico-social staff and the stress of orientation, and calls for dialogue. Neither an organization, nor an establishment, nor the signatories of a petition represent all high school students.[5][4]

Parcoursup: distinguishing the platform from admission decisions

Parcoursup is the national pre-registration platform for the first year of higher education. A common file allows you to consult training courses, express wishes and respond to proposals. According to its official presentation, the establishment commissions examine the files and establish the rankings; the platform transmits applications and proposals and applies legal priorities, particularly for scholarship holders. To say that the software alone decides all admissions is therefore inaccurate, without closing the debate on the fairness of the selection.[7]

For the next session, you must use the 2027 calendar. The official PDF provides for the opening of the training map on December 17, 2026, registration and wishes from January 18 to March 11, 2027, then the finalization of the file and confirmation of wishes no later than April 1. Training requirements and individual deadlines remain to be verified in the official forms and the candidate's file.[9][7]

Claims and official response: where are we?

On October 19, the ministry published the 2026 report and recognized the stress of orientation as well as the expectations of transparency, fairness and support. The press release links these subjects to the high school mobilization at the end of September and announces a dialogue led by the two ministers, with decisions for improvement before the end of October.[8]

This text confirms the subjects discussed and a deadline, but does not publish terms of application to remove the selection, abolish the platform or create 250,000 places. The following texts must specify what is changing, for which session and on what date. The 2027 calendar alone does not prove that the demands were adopted.[8][3][9]

October 21: consultation announced, decisions still awaited

Le Monde reports a rapid consultation with three working groups announced from October 21: orientation, readability of the tool and training places. We have not obtained a report confirming their conclusions.[10]

The ministerial press release of October 19 sets the objective of decisions before the end of October. To assess what happens next, it will be necessary to compare each published measure with the requests, check the sessions concerned and distinguish between a commitment, a rule adopted and its application.[8]

National consultation: closing announced on October 23

The Ministry of National Education opened a consultation on the Agora platform from October 5 to 23. All high school students can answer anonymously two open-ended questions about their difficulties and desired improvements in their schooling. The announcement, published on October 6, does not constitute a new measure taken on October 22.[2]

The ministry plans a summary and national restitution at the end of the month. The press release does not specify the exact closing time on October 23 and does not present the contributions as a representative vote or as a reform already adopted.[2]

Chronology

  1. The FCPE locates the beginning of the movement

According to the updated FCPE page, the mobilization begins that day in the face of the lack of school resources. This is the story of this organization.[1]

  2. Parents and unions take a stand

The FCPE asks the Higher Education Council to listen to students. FO ESR supports the mobilization and calls in particular for the repeal of Parcoursup.[4][5]

  3. Launch of the petition for ten emergency measures

The petition carried by the Student Union indicates a launch on this date. It brings together study conditions, orientation and student life.[6][3]

  4. The ministry announces decisions for the end of the month

The official report confirms that transparency and fairness are part of the dialogue. The precise measurements remain to be published.[8]

  5. Three working groups announced on Parcoursup

A meeting is announced to open a rapid consultation. Its result and the measures adopted are not yet documented in this file.[10]

  6. The high school and student meeting banned by the prefecture

The interfac and coordination call announced 2 p.m. in front of the Pitié-Salpêtrière, boulevard de l’Hôpital, then a journey towards Bastille. The Police Headquarters banned this demonstration, citing risks to property and people.[12][13]

  7. End of the national consultation of high school students

The ministry announces a consultation open until this date on Agora, then a summary and a national restitution at the end of the month. No closing time is indicated in the press release.[2]

  8. Opening of registrations and wishes

The official 2027 calendar sets March 11 for the end of the vows and April 1 for the finalization and confirmation. This is not a mobilization date.[9]

Demands and positions

Student UnionAt the origin of the ten measures

Defends the end of selection and the increase in capacities, while maintaining a single platform; the other requests concern buildings, personnel, rhythms and aids.[3]

FCPEParents’ Federation

Requests an initial emergency measures plan, accompanied by a precise timetable, identified resources and a monitoring system involving high school students, parents and educational teams. This request from the FCPE does not constitute a government decision.[1][4]

FO ESRHigher Education and Research Union

Demands the creation of necessary positions, the repeal of Parcoursup and Mon Master, and supports student mobilizations.[5]

Ministries of National Education and Higher EducationAuthorities responsible for the system

Defend the functioning of admissions while recognizing the stress and the issues of transparency and fairness; announce improvement decisions before the end of October.[8]

National high school coordinationLiaison Committee statement of October 18 published on October 21

Defends more resources, classes limited to 25 students and the elimination of Parcoursup. Calls for October 22 and 24, then November 3 and joining the day of November 5.[11]

What is confirmed

  • The ten measures distinguish the end of the selection from the maintenance of a single platform. They are not just about taking down a website.[3]

  • The official presentation assigns the examination and classification of files to establishments. An official 2027 calendar is available in PDF.[7][9]

  • The October 19 press release confirms the dialogue and the goal of decisions at the end of the month, without publishing a complete set of enforcement measures.[8]

  • The ministry is announcing a national consultation open from October 5 to 23, with a summary and restitution planned for the end of the month.[2]

What remains to be verified

  • The final text of the improvements and the sessions concerned: follow the announcements of the two ministries and the official rules, then compare them to the demands.[8]

  • Specific agreements between establishments and organizations: a petition does not demonstrate a position common to all high school students and does not replace a representative survey.[3]

  • Teaching actions and conditions in each establishment: consult the announcements of the establishment, the academy and the organizers. A national mobilization does not allow us to deduce a local closure.

  • The exact closing time of the consultation on October 23 is not indicated in the press release. The results and their possible translation into measures remain to be verified after the announced restitution.[2]
