Editorial policy
How Manifs checks sources, separates facts from commentary, and handles corrections and removal requests.
Updated 2 November 2026
Our role
Manifs selects and explains information about protests and public policy. Our coverage is partial: we publish topics for which we have identifiable sources and enough evidence to provide useful updates.
Sources and verification
We prioritise documents from public authorities, operators and organisations for their own announcements. Statements remain attributed to their authors; we seek further evidence when they concern disputed facts or consequences beyond the announcement itself.
Before publication, we check the author, date, location and scope of each document. Police, organiser and media figures remain separate when their methods or reporting times differ. Links allow readers to return to the documents used.
Dates, facts and commentary
We distinguish a published call, an announced event and an event that has already taken place. French event times use Paris time; elsewhere, the local time zone is stated. A source-checking date is not presented as the event date.
Analysis pages identify Manifs commentary. Opinions are not presented as established facts, and an investigation being opened is not treated as a conviction.
Translation and AI assistance
We use AI assistance to prepare text and translations. Factual passages are checked against the cited sources, with particular attention to names, dates, figures and the distinction between announcements and outcomes. A translation does not constitute a new independent verification.
Images and external documents
Images identify their author, licence and context when known. Archive photographs are labelled and are not presented as images of a future event. External documents are linked and summarised; reproducing them in full requires appropriate rights.
Reporting and correcting an error
Send the website contact the URL, the passage concerned and a verifiable source. We examine the document and its date, then correct the passage if the error is confirmed. A substantial factual change receives a dated note; a simple typographical correction does not artificially refresh the date of the information.
Documented updates
- — October 31 figures: 779 arrests reported, retaining the earlier 21:00 count as a historical reference. Read the figures and sources
Removal and archives
Removal requests are assessed according to the issue raised: an error, rights, personal data or material that has become misleading. Depending on the circumstances, we correct, anonymise or remove the material, or retain a clearly dated archive. An archive is not kept labelled as current information.
Opinions, surveys and contributions
The For or Against choice in the France guide is stored in the browser and does not produce a public support rate. Displayed results come from external surveys with their authors, questions and dates. Reader-reaction excerpts are selected from the sources named; they are not an open comment section on this page.
Any public contributions must respect people, rights and the topic. Content concerns can be reported to the website contact.
Advertising and editorial independence
Advertisements and any sponsored content must be identifiable. An advertiser does not determine the conclusions of our analysis. Publisher information is provided in the legal notice.
