November 5 strike: who is calling, for what demands?

As of October 22, 2026, an inter-union call and several sectoral announcements are aimed at November 5. This file distinguishes common demands, the positions of each organization and local arrangements.

November 5 is still to come. The union call for strikes and demonstrations is verified; it does not confirm participation or service interruptions nationally.

The essentials

The appeal goes beyond the salary question of a single sector. The declaration of October 5 cites the CFDT, the CGT, FO, the UNSA and the FSU as the first signatories. It is aimed at public and private employees, young people and retirees, around income, public services, employment and industry.[1]

The organizations then published their own documents. A common date does not mean identical demands or the same form of action in all sectors. You must read the joint declaration as well as the announcements from your sector and territory.[1][3][5]

Why combine wages and public services?

The statement links cost of living to budget choices. It calls for salary negotiations, an increase in pensions, the minimum wage, the index point and social benefits, as well as resources for public services. It also includes requirements for industrial and ecological planning and tax justice. Summarizing this day as a demonstration against the price of fuel would hide the essential point.[1]

In its file of November 5, the CGT defends lasting salary increases and social rights, rather than one-off bonuses. It requires staffing, remuneration and investments for public services. These are proposals from the organization, not measures already applied.[3]

A date announced, local arrangements to be specified

The CFDT Public Functions has published a notice covering state, territorial and hospital civil services. The text provides for mobilizations which could locally take the form of strikes. It attests to their preparation, without allowing the conclusion that a school, hospital or transport line will be closed.[5]

Local information may change. The CFDT Île-de-France page on a coach departure from Val-d'Oise confirms a trip to Paris, but still announces the Paris route at a later date. The bus times are not those of the departure of the procession. New local announcements remain to be consulted.[7]

Health and social: salaries, staff and financing

In a press release dated October 17, the CFTC Santé Social Federation confirms its participation on November 5 for the public and private sectors. It calls for pay increases, adapted scales and minimums, better recognition of nights, Sundays, public holidays and on-call duty, as well as effective salary negotiations.[10]

The federation also calls for suitable staff numbers, replacement of absences, prevention of professional risks and sustainable funding for establishments. This press release sets out the CFTC's demands; it does not make it possible to predict the closure of a hospital, the organization of a service or the level of participation.[10]

The railway workers: a distinct united call

A press release dated October 15 brings together CGT Cheminots, UNSA-Ferroviaire, SUD-Rail and CFDT Cheminots. The four federations are calling on railway workers to strike on November 5. The document distinguishes this day from a salary rally in front of SNCF management in Saint-Denis on November 3.[8]

The text mentions salaries, bonuses, thirteenth month, jobs and working conditions. It makes it possible to identify the authors and their requests; no percentage of canceled trains is included. Rail monitoring is developed in our SNCF file.[8]
